GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 369 December 31, 2001 Pocket Watches I carry a pocket watch, mostly because for years I wore wristwatches and kept breaking them. I also carry it because simple gadgets fascinate me and I think the spring-loaded covers are fascinating. The watch I carry is an inexpensive one, but has an attractive, ornate cover to protect the watch dial. It depicts the engine of an old train complete with coal car. It looks nice and does a great job, but for me to see what time it is, I have to open the watch and see past the cover. People are often like that. They wear beautiful faces to protect themselves, but you need to get past the cover to know who they really are. Its hard for your love of Jesus and your testimony to shine through your ornate façade. You need to open up and be real for people to really know you and see Him in you. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 NIV Until next time, may the cover come off and your love of Jesus shine brightly for others to see. God bless. Kevin Perhaps you wear that mask because you dont think anyone could love you if you let the real you be known. Jesus loves you and takes you wherever you are and whatever you have done. He is the one who loves unconditionally, forgives and gives fresh starts. If you would like to experience His unconditional love, His forgiveness and be made new, email me. Ill share a few Bible verses that explain why a relationship with Him is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.
