GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #366 December 28, 2001 Empty Lives
It was a beautiful, sunny day yesterday and I walked the dog around the lake. The sky was a deep blue and the sunlight flashed off the snow and ice like diamonds. The setting was like something out of a picture postcard. It was also an odd day. I dont know if it was just the time of day or what, but I didnt see another person on my walk. I didnt see any rabbits or squirrels and I didnt even hear any birds singing. It was deathly still and quiet. Usually I see a couple of people and hear or see numerous birds. Quite often the squirrels kick up a fuss in the background as I walk by. In the spring through fall, the path I usually walk is a bustle of activity. There are flocks of geese and ducks, numerous people out for a run or walking their dogs, a wide variety of birds and small animals to be seen. Yesterday, it was pretty and bright, but devoid of life. Thats what the world often seems like to non-Christians. They keep enough happening to feel like everything is okay, they might even experience periods of contentment, but somewhere deep inside, they know there must be something more. They know all the glitter and all the things arent enough to provide true, long lasting, peace, comfort and joy. The true secret to life is an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. Acts 2:28 NIV Until next time, when you see one of those lives that is bright and pretty on the outside but lifeless on the inside, may you share what Jesus has done for you. God bless. Kevin Do you have an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ? If not email me. Ill share a few Bible verses that explain why a relationship with Him is important and a prayer that will make it possible. He alone can fill the void that you feel in those sleepless moments.
