GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #356 December 18, 2001 Here I Am Lord We like to tell ourselves that we are bold warriors for Christ and that we have given our lives over to Him. We like to tell ourselves that He is the Lord of our life. What happens when the call goes out for workers for the harvest? We suddenly seem to loose our enthusiasm and find reasons why it cant be us. It reminds me of Moses standing on the mountaintop in front of the burning bush (take a moment and re-read the story, Im just going to include a few highlights). When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am." Exodus 3:4 NIV But Moses said to God, "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?" And God said, "I will be with you. Exodus 3:11-12a NIV Moses answered, "What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, `The LORD did not appear to you'?" Exodus 4:1 NIV Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue." Exodus 4:10 NIV But Moses said, "O Lord, please send someone else to do it." Exodus 4:13 NIV Moses didnt want to go. Jonah didnt want to go and many others didnt want to go. They felt inadequate, unprepared or just plain rebellious and lazy. Each had what they considered a valid reason to not go even though God Himself had chosen them. Compare their responses to Isaiahs response Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me! Isaiah 6:8 NIV He will never call you unless He knows you are the right person for the job. Next time He calls, instead of finding an excuse to say no, step out in faith and ask Him to guide you. Its to stop saying send someone else and say, here I am, send me. Until next time, "May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV God bless. Kevin There is someone who cares about you, no matter what you are going through. There is someone who will love you and forgive you no matter what. That someone is Jesus. If you dont know Him, email me.
