GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue # 355 December 17, 2001

Acknowledgement

The world is full of lonely, hurting people. There are many people who are going through a crisis but feel as if they are caring the weight of the world all on their own.

Often these people have become so good at hiding their pain, we don’t have a clue from the outside that there is anything wrong. There wear a mask to hide the pain.

Christians are as guilty of this as anyone else, perhaps out of a mistaken belief that Christians should have everything together all the time. They come to church, explain a few pleasantries and then go home to hurt in silence.

Sometimes what we want more than anything else is just to know that someone knows we are alive and cares about us.

A simple hello or smile to the person you see on the street or in the store. A quick note, call or email to that friend you haven’t talked to in a while. Try asking someone how they are and really wanting to know.

It doesn’t take a lot, but we get so busy with our own lives that we neglect the basics sometimes.

Who is there in your world that you need to acknowledge? Who do you need to call, write, email or simply spend a few moments talking with?

For someone, it can make the difference between a life of despair and a great day.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:7-12 NIV

Until next time, may we show His love by taking the time to care about those around us.

God bless.

Kevin

There is someone who cares about you, no matter what you are going through. There is someone who will love you and forgive you no matter what. That someone is Jesus.

If you don’t know Him, email me. I’ll share a few Bible verses that will explain why a relationship with Him is so important and a prayer that will make it possible
