GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #353 December 15, 2001 Two Plagues This morning I want to talk about the two plagues that hit Egypt in the time of Pharaoh. You may be thinking, wait a minute Kevin, there were ten plagues, and we know our Bible better than that. Lets look and see (the plagues may be described slightly differently depending on which Bible translation you use): Water turns to blood (Exodus 7) Frogs (Exodus 8) Lice (Exodus 8) Flies (Exodus 8) On Livestock (Exodus 9) Boils (Exodus 9) Hail (Exodus 9) Locusts (Exodus 10) Darkness (Exodus 10) Death of firstborn (Exodus 11) I was right, two plagues. The plague that brought about disobedience and rebellion and the plague that brought about obedience and deliverance. Pharaoh chose the former, the Israelites the latter. When were struck with difficulties in life, we can choose our response. We can run towards God or away from Him. This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NIV Choosing life and blessings is sometimes what seems to be the harder path. Why should I be the one to forgive, they did it to me? Why should I pay, its not my fault or my problem? Why should I, no one will ever know? The first step in choosing life is to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour. The steps to blessing (and I mean more than material blessing here) come one step at a time, moment-by-moment, decision by decision. The world is under two plagues, which one will you choose? Until next time, my prayer is that you choose blessings and life. God bless. Kevin Have you taken that first step towards life? If not email me and Ill share a few Bible verses that explain why a relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. No matter what you are going through, you can make the choice; will it be disobedience and rebellion or obedience and deliverance? The choice is up to you.
