GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 234 August 19, 2001 Christmas in August
Yesterday was Christmas in the Corbin household. We dont have a different calendar than the rest of the church, we celebrate Christmas twice. The August Christmas is a family reunion at my parents farm. In Alberta during the winter, the roads are often unsafe for long distance travel in December, so we get together during the summer and celebrate Christmas. There was a gift exchange, a Christmas tree and a table bursting with turkey, ham, chicken and all the trimmings. Its fun in a lot of ways, and its great to see some of my sisters and their families that I may not see again until next Christmas. I realized too that it is a sad time. Sad because most of the family doesnt share my faith, and there was no Christ in the Christmas. The gifts were nice, it was great to catch up, but it just wasnt the same. I remembered back to when my heart was hardened to Christ. I thought it was full and happy, but something was missing. If someone tried to tell me that it was the joy of knowing Christ that was lacking, I would have thought they were crazy. Yet being on the other side of things, I know that He makes all the difference. I hold out hope though and I pray, because I know it is His desire that all people will turn to Him. I intercede on their behalf daily. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what [is] the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:13-19 KJV.
Do you have family and friends that dont know the Lord? Have you been praying for them for what seems like forever? Dont give up. My one sister interceded on my behalf for almost 20 years before I accepted Christ. Now weve joined her in praying for the rest of the family. Until next time, keep the faith, and keep on praying for your friends and families. He listens. God bless. Kevin © 2001 K.F. "Kevin" Corbin All Rights Reserved |
