GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 219 August 04, 2001 Unseen Realms Many people, including perhaps most Christians, are oblivious to the extent of the spirit realm around them. We see and deal with the physical world on a daily basis and tend to ignore everything else. Yet even in the physical world things are not all they appear. A solid mountain is not really solid. The rock is made up of molecules which are comprised of protons, neutrons and a nucleus, all surrounded by space. Even the smallest known parts beyond the protons and neutrons are mostly space. We have no problem comprehending that concept. Nor do have a problem comprehending other parts of the world that we cant see. We accept the presence of gravity, but we cant see it. We accept the presence of stars during the day and the sun at night although we dont see them. Yet we seem to have a problem comprehending a spirit realm. Scripture is full of references to the world of the spirit, including angels, demons and of course Satan and God himself. Such a world does exist at the same time and in the same place as the physical world. If we were able to actually see the struggles that are happening in the spirit realm we would be overwhelmed. The mission facility my son is at in Madagascar, is located between a Hindu crematorium on one side and a fellow from India on the other who threatens to shoot any Christians who venture onto his property. I dont think there is a special effects team in the world that could adequately create the armies of warring angels and demons that surround that mission property, all vying for souls. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12 NIV Next time you find yourself in a struggle with someone, remember your battle is not with that person, but with the powers that have influenced and shaped him/her. Love the person and reject the spirit. Remember you have Holy Spirit and his angels on your side. Until next time, may you be aware of the spiritual battle that ranges all around you. Not with the paranoia of seeing a demon behind every bush, but with God given eyes of discernment. God bless. Kevin © 2001 K.F. "Kevin" Corbin All Rights Reserved |
