GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #474 April 27, 2002 Are Those The Only Choices? In life, we make choices. Some are good, others look good and turn out to be not so good and still others are just poor choices. I haven’t met anyone who made all the right choices all the time. We act on impulse, we act without proper information, and sometimes we act by choosing not to make a choice. There is simply no way around choices. The decision can be as simple as what colour socks to wear or what kind of sandwich to have. It can be as life changing as who do I marry or do I stay married. The impact of our choices may be insignificant in the scheme of things or may impact the course of our entire lives. The biggest decision we will ever make in our lives is what do we do about Jesus. Do we accept Him as God? Do we reject Him? Do we blindly carry on and hope to avoid choosing? This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. Deuteronomy 30:19-20a NIV To borrow a line from Chicken Run, a movie out a couple of years ago, "Are those the only choices?" Yes. Choose God and you choose life and blessing. Reject Him and you choose to be outside His blessing. If you choose God or have already chosen Him, there is no guarantee that life will be easy. He promises to care for us, to provide for us, to forgive our sins and that we will spend eternity with Him. Yet sometimes life will still be hard. Make no mistake, life with Christ can still be hard, but it is far better both in this world and the next than life without Him. I’ve made the choice. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15a If you’ve chosen Him and are going through a tough time, hang in there. The God who controls everything has promised blessings. Rejoice in His faithfulness no matter what you are going through this very moment. God bless. Kevin If you haven’t chosen God yet, it’s not too late. Accept Him or reject Him, those are the only choices. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life.
