GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue # 469 April 22, 2002

GROANING

The water on the lake is breaking free of its icy winter cover. The pressure from melt water has caused it to crack and big floes to push up. At times you can hear the whole lake groan as the ice shifts.

I got an email from my wife who is visiting family in Ontario. They had a small earthquake there over the weekend. From their top floor apartment they could really feel things rattle and away.

In several places in the world, active volcanoes are spewing forth lava and reshaping the very face of the earth around them.

The Aral Sea in Kazakhstan is drying up, and will be gone soon if something doesn’t change. The Sea of Galilee is down 3 meters from its normal level.

Everywhere you look, you can see fulfilment of the Scripture

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Romans 8:22 NIV

But, its not all doom and gloom. The writer of Romans goes on to say

Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:23-28 NIV

I don’t know what you are going through, but I do know that He has promised that Holy Spirit intercedes on your behalf and that in some way He has a plan for it all.

The pain and groaning are real, but they are temporary and better things are to come. When you feel like you just can’t take it anymore, know that you are not alone, God Himself is there walking with you.

Until next time, may you feel His comforting presence.

God bless.

Kevin

Do you have a relationship with the God who will walk through all things with you?

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
