GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #468 April 21, 2002 Bad Hair Day I awakened this morning with an incredible case of bed head. My hair was standing straight up in places and mashed flat in others. It was a sight to behold (or not). After a shower and running a brush through my hair, I was back to almost respectable looking for worship this morning. My bad hair day got me thinking. How would I have been treated if I went to church this morning with my hair just the way it looked when I got up? Would people have been offended? Would they have smiled politely then made snide comments and gossiped when I was out of earshot? Would they have told me to my face that I was inappropriately dressed for church? Id like to think not. Id like to think they would have recognized that I normally at least take time to comb my hair before going out. I hope they would recognize that it wasnt a good morning and take some time to check in with me and see if I was okay. In reality, there probably would have been a mix of both types of reaction. Ive been going to the same place for worship for over ten years so there would probably be more concern than gossip. But what if it was my first time there? How would they react? There is a biblical way to react. My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet," have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? James 2:1-4 NIV How do you react when someone shows up for worship, not dressed as you think they should be? Until next time, may you see everyone through the loving eyes of Jesus? Hallelu Yah Kevin Do you know the God who sees all of us through eyes of love? The God who doesnt care if were rich or poor? The God who wants a personal relationship with all of us no matter how we look, what we have or what we have done? Email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship. Did you know that at Gleanings, we have a dedicated team of prayer warriors and all prayer concerns are kept strictly confidential?
