GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #465 April 18, 2002

First Robin

On Monday, I saw my first robin of spring. Soon there will be so many of them around that I won’t pay any attention to their presence.

The first robin is always a delight because seeing it is one of those checklist items that say no matter what the weather says spring is here to stay. The first robin always gets me thinking of the wonder of spring.

Spring is the classic time of renewal and rebirth. The earth seems to go from barren and lifeless to rich, vibrant and full of life. Trees that stood bare all winter will soon be full of buds and then the leaves will come out so fast you can almost hear them appear.

The air fills with the sound of birds singing. I see people out walking that I haven’t seen since fall. The weather becomes nicer. The flowers begin to pop up.

The other thing that comes to mind when I see the robin is Jesus. I see the bright red breast of the robin and I’m reminded of Jesus’ blood shed on the cross.

It too is the sure sign of something wonderful. Our sins are forgiven when we accept Him. Our hearts and lives change. Our spirit bursts forth with joy and hope.

It reminds me that He cared enough for me to go to the cross when He could have called a legion of legions of angels to stop it. It reminds me that all will be made new again.

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. Romans 8:18-21 NIV

Soon, His children will be with Him, singing their praises. I don’t know if it is next week, next year or a thousand years from now, but I do know that even a hundred years of suffering in this life will be nothing compared to an eternity of joy with Him.

Until next time, when you see a robin in your path, take a moment to rejoice in what Christ has done (and will do) for you.

God bless.

Kevin

Do you really know the God who came and gave His life for you? Do you have a relationship with the one who offers unconditional love, forgiveness and hope to ANYONE who will accept it?

Some say Christianity is an exclusive group. On the contrary, it is open to people of all ages, races, colours, and nations regardless of what they have done in the past. If you open your heart to Him, He WILL accept you. He will never reject or abandon you.

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
