GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #464 April 17, 2002 The Reason Did you ever wonder why the church exists? If everything was finished with the cross, resurrection and ascension, why doesnt Father just take us home? Heaven knows it is not because the church is perfect. The church is made up of imperfect people trying their best to understand something that is beyond what we can truly comprehend in an environment hostile to the message. The church wont be perfect until were with Him, so that cant be the reason. Is it fellowship? Were called to meet together and that is a vital part of church life but we wont have perfectly open, honest and loving fellowship until we get to heaven with Him. Is it worship? The opportunity for corporate worship is a blessing and not something to miss, but well have perfect praise and worship when were in Heaven. Is it to get good Biblical teaching? We all need to know more about God and His teaching but that will all be revealed in full, without error when were with Him. I know it cant be to give us the opportunity to sin. We wont be able to sin in heaven, but He gave His life to free us from sin, so it cant be the freedom to sin that keeps us here. It cant be because God needs the money that the church collects. Hes the source of all wealth. That just leaves one thing, to tell others about Jesus and His love for them. We wont be able to do that from heaven. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20 NIV There are all kinds of ways to tell others. Some are evangelists and teachers, others will work with the poor and needy, some will pray. The methodology isnt the key. The simple fact is that if we dont care about those who dont know Jesus, if we dont have a heart to share Him with others weve missed the boat. We are here to tell others about the way His love has transformed us. Until next time, may a burning desire to share Jesus with others fill your very heart and soul. Hallelu Yah Kevin To see what changed my heart from hard core sceptic to a believer with a desire to share Jesus, visit the Gleanings From The Word web page at http://gleanings.jesusanswers.com and follow the link to the page that tells my story. When youve come to the realization that you need Him in your life, Email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship. Did you know that at Gleanings, we have a dedicated team of prayer warriors and all prayer concerns are kept strictly confidential? Your comments, your questions and your joys are shared with the prayer team, to keep me accountable as the head of the ministry and to encourage them as they see God at work in your life.
