GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue # 461 April 12, 2002

Transitions

Spring is definitely around the corner (I know for many of you it’s well underway) in this part of the world. Most of the snow cover is now gone and yesterday as I walked a round the lake I noticed two things.

First was a hole in the ice that was allowing water to flow up onto the ice, which means break-up can’t be that far away. I’m sure the geese would enjoy some open water; the ice just doesn’t seem to impress them much. Secondly, I saw a snowshoe rabbit and he was about half brown.

The snowshoe rabbit’s coat (North American Varying Hare to be technical) changes to brown for the summer and back to white for winter. It seems to spend a good portion of its life in transition.

It’s like that for Christians as well. When we accept Jesus we get our one way, guaranteed ticket to heaven. From then on, we’re in transition.

As we grow in our faith we find things that need work. There are people to forgive, attitudes to adjust, habits to break and more. It isn’t always an easy journey, but we know what lies ahead and we know that He walked the path before us.

I once heard someone say that if God isn’t working on changing something in your life, you’re not listening. He knows the pace we can handle. Some areas of change come very easily. Others are more protracted because to deal with everything at once would overwhelm us.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.                                                   2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NIV

If you find yourself in constant transition, don’t despair, it means you are that much closer to being the person He created you to be. The transitions are not condemnation, but reformation. He cares enough to want to lovingly bring out your true being.

Until next time, rejoice in the trials that life throws your way. He uses them to mould us and shape us into being more like Him.

NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY AS I WILL BE AWAY AT A CONFERENCE AND WILL HAVE NO INTERNET ACCESS. LOOK FOR THE NEXT GLEANINGS ON MONDAY MORNING.

Hallelu Yah.

Kevin

Do you know this Jesus who loves you unconditionally, but still loves you enough to work with you through all your problems?

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
