GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #459 April 10, 2002 Which Way Will You Run? As I read some of the emails I received in response to yesterdays Gleanings "An Odd Goose", my heart went out to many of you. The capacity for each of us to hurt one another and to be hurt is astounding. The only thing greater is the capacity for love and forgiveness that He has. The pain of loneliness or rejection is often far more intense and long lasting than the pain of a simple broken bone. Sometimes we wonder how a loving God can allow things to happen that cause such great pain. The reality of life is that if we never experience pain, we would never understand contentment. If we never experienced loneliness, we would never understand the value of companionship. Like physical pain, emotional pain is the sign that something is wrong and needs to be attended to. We can choose to move towards the Greater Healer and receive His love, affection, forgiveness and healing. We can also choose to run away from the one who can comfort us. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. 1 Peter 2:24-25 NIV I know how my heart broke as I watched that odd goose. I multiply that feeling by the number of people who are hurting and running from God and it boggles my mind. It must break His heart to know He has what we need but watch so many reject Him. Until next time, take those hidden hurts and lay them at the feet of the one who suffered it all so that we could be healed and set free. Hallelu Yah Kevin Are you walking around with the pain of rejection and loneliness? There is a place to go for help and healing. Actually it is more than a place; there is SOMEONE who you can go to for healing. Email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
