GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #456 April 7, 2002

Spring Forward

This morning was time to lose an hour of sleep for Daylight Savings Time. Of course we don’t really loose it, we make it up again in the fall, but it’s gone for the moment. People will be showing up late for worship across the world because they forgot to set their clocks ahead.

The idea of losing an hour got me thinking. What if we really lost an hour?  Once wouldn’t be too bad, over a lifetime, it would add up to about 40 days, a fairly large chunk of time. A person could do a lot in forty days.

The earth was flooded in forty days. Moses spent forty days on the mountain with God. It took forty days for the Egyptians to embalm Israel. The spies were in the Promised Land for forty days. Elijah traveled forty days in the desert to get to Mount Horeb. Jesus was hungry in the desert for forty days. Jesus appeared to people for forty days after the resurrection.

What would you do differently if you knew you had only forty days left to live? How would your priorities change?

We may never lose that forty days, but we never know either if we have forty days, forty years or forty minutes of time left before the Lord comes again.

"Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." Luke 12:35-40 NIV

Are you ready if he was to come today?

Until next time, may you live a life that would be pleasing to God if He were to come in an hour, a day, a week or at any other time.

Hallelu Yah

Kevin

If Jesus were to come back today are you ready? There is a way to know &ldots;&ldots;&ldots;  Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
