GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #452 April 3, 2002

Signs of Spring

Earlier this week I heard the unmistakable sounds of a nuthatch singing a mating song and a flight of geese nearby. A lone duck sat looking miserable in a snow covered field.

You can’t find any winter stuff at the local department store.

Everyone at the local market is complaining about how long winter has lasted and that there is still snow on the ground (even though we can still have snow well past the May 24 weekend).

These are all signs that spring is on the way. We’ve had enough winter and are looking forward to the renewal that spring has to offer.

We know that winter is having its last throes but cannot win. Spring is just around the corner and then summer will be here.

In much the same way, I watch the news and see the turmoil in the Middle East. The newspapers are full of stories of big business corruption, the tragedies of everyday life and the latest natural disaster.

It isn’t that I don’t care about these things; my heart goes out to the people involved. It’s just that I know in my heart that it is just the dying throes of a passing season

Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, `I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Matthew 24:4-8 NIV

Take heart. The situation in the world is temporary, soon the King will return for His bride. I don’t know if it will be today, tomorrow, next year or a thousand years from now, but as surely as spring follows winter He will be back.

Until next time, when the news of the world weighs heavily on your heart, know that like winter, it will pass into something more beautiful.

God bless.

Kevin

Do you see what happens in the world and feel filled with helplessness and despair? Look to the one who will see you through it all; look to a personal relationship with Jesus.

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
