GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life

  

Issue #1,193 October 1,2004 Autumn Leaves   There will be no Gleanings tomorrow (Saturday Oct 2) as I will be away at a conference beginning this afternoon. We'll resume as normal on Monday. The corner of the building was filled with autumn leaves. It was a riot of red, yellow and orange of differing sizes and shapes. I recognized poplar, willow, maple, mayday, mountain ash and there were others I couldn't identify or which were already broken into bits. The wind blew the leaves round and round in circles as it gusted and bounced off the side of the building. They spiraled up and drifted down with the wind. As each gust blew in, more leaves accumulated in the corner and the pile was getting deeper all the time. I was reminded of a promise from God. Jesus has been instructing His disciples about the end times and then encourages them. "At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens. Mark 13:26-27 NIV He will come and gather His people from everywhere and bring them home. God made a similar promise to the people of Israel and we can see it being fulfilled today as Jews from around the world are coming home to Israel. Here's just one set of many verses that apply to that promise. At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you; I will rescue the lame and gather those who have been scattered. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they were put to shame. At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes," says the LORD. Zephaniah 3:19-20 NIV The winds of God's Holy Spirit will blow and we will be gathered. There will people of differing ethnic origins and color of skin. People from all cultures will be represented. The rich and the poor. Every dividing line you can imagine will be broken. We'll all have the most important thing in common; our faith in Christ. Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. You have value in the eyes of God so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that heaven will not be complete without you.

 

HELP FOR THE HURTING You're invited by God Himself to the great gathering of His elect. How will you RSVP? If it is with yes I accept Jesus, the blessings will be beyond measure. I you answer, no I don't want Jesus, eternity will be very bleak. You have the invitation and now you need to respond. Will you come and join us at the celebration? If you want to know how to do that simply email us and we'll send you some Bible verses that will explain it to you. You can simply begin the relationship by honestly and completely opening your heart; admitting you need God's help; turning away from your sin and saying a prayer along the lines of the one below. There isn't any "magic" in the prayer; it's simply a way to open up to the gift that Jesus already bought for you with His very life. You can't earn it. You don't deserve it. He freely offers it to all who will accept it. Jesus: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I have sinned. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer for the first time let me know so I can rejoice with you. It's not the end of the process. It is the beginning of a wonderful journey to become more like Jesus. It's your starting point.
